Around the EQUATOR with Clin-STAR

Journal of the American Geriatrics Society

The Journal of the American Geriatrics Society (JAGS), in collaboration with the Clinician-Scientists Transdisciplinary Aging Research (Clin-STAR) team, introduces a new series called “Around the EQUATOR with Clin-STAR.” The objective of this series is to highlight existing reporting standards while addressing transdisciplinary challenges that may arise when these standards are applied to research involving older participants.

Seeking Authors. Around the EQUATOR with Clin-STAR, a series initiated by Clin-STAR in JAGS, is soliciting authors with recognized expertise for diagnostics (STARD), economic evaluations (CHEERS), qualitative research (COREQ), quality improvement (SQUIRES), pragmatic trials (CONSORT-Pragmatic), and artificial intelligence (CONSORT-AI). The editorial describing the series and several articles to date are available at this link. Author instructions. For those with expertise in these reporting standards who are interested in contributing to the series, please contact: andrea@afar.org

Clin-STAR Corner

Journal of the American Geriatrics Society

A Journal of the American Geriatrics Society (JAGS) series featuring practice-changing articles for the care of older adults in medical, surgical, and related specialties.

In 2022, the Clin-STAR network and Editors of JAGS launch of a new, recurrent series, ‘Clin-STAR Corner’. This series capitalizes on the expertise and passion of the medical and surgical specialty community of aging-focused clinician investigators and leaders who will summarize the most impactful studies within their specialty over the past two years pertinent to the care of older persons. The goals of this series are two-fold: first, to highlight current practice-changing research within medical, surgical and related specialties; and second, to enhance transdisciplinary communication, research and care strategies.

These literature updates describe the state of aging research within the specialty, a brief overview of the search strategy used to identify these key practice-changing original reports, and summaries of each report. In each paper, a team of two to four authors will identify high-quality articles within their specialty, prioritizing well-executed randomized-controlled studies or large cohort studies involving diverse aging populations. These reports should generally be published in high-impact general medical or specialty journals besides aging.
