Support For Integrating Aging Research Initiatives in Professional Specialty Societies and Meetings
There has been significant progress in the integration of geriatrics and aging research into the medical and surgical subspecialties as well as in other disciplines, and topics once considered to be geriatric concerns are becoming more common but further integration is needed. Specialty Society meetings provide a superb platform for raising the visibility and integration of geriatrics and aging research among its members and, in turn, for enhancing aging-related research and education, with the goal of improving the care of older persons.
This Clin-STAR Outreach Fund provides up to $4,000 to help increase aging-research related activities at professional societies through a range of activities as outlined below.
Activities could include, but are not limited to:
- Developing an innovative aging research activity for the annual meeting
- Developing an aging-research symposium (this could include application for Clin-STAR Distinguished Professor Fund)
- Setting up aging tracks
- Establishment or support of an Aging Task Force/Special Interest Group
- Developing aging-specific research curriculum
- Creating or updating evidence-based aging-specific best practices/guidelines
- Creating online materials for specialty society websites
- Note: NIH/NIA Clin-STAR grant U24AG065204 should be acknowledged in any products stemming from this funding (eg, slide presentation, publications)
