Clin-STAR Database: Frequently Asked Questions

Please check this page periodically, as new FAQs will be posted as we launch the Database. If you have questions not addressed by this page or our How to Get Started on the Clin-STAR Database page, please contact us at database@clin-star.org.

How do I get started using the database?

The first step is to register here. Then, you will receive an email to start activating your account and setting up your profile. Detailed instructions on getting started are available here.

I have registered for the database, when can I access my account?

Thank you for joining the Clin-STAR Database! Within 1 business day, you will receive an activation email with information on how to set your password and access your account. More information on how to get started on the database is available here.

Please note, prior to the Database launching on April 15, 2022 it could be longer than 1 business day before you receive your activation email. Please reach out to database@clin-star.org with any questions about the launch.

I don’t see all my publications. How can I add more publications to my profile?

Clin-STAR did an initial search for publications when adding your profile to the database, based on the information provided (name, institution, and any identifiers). If you are missing publications, it is likely that the information provided was not sufficient to find them in this initial search. One option to resolve this is to make sure your name and institution are written on your profile so they align with your publications.

Another option is to add an identifier (i.e. ORCID) to your profile. The identifiers are not visible to those who visit your profile, they will just be used to find your publications. Please note that the ORCID will only be useful if you maintain an updated ORCID profile. Also, these changes intended to help us find more publications will not be effective immediately; the database is not continuously searching for publications. Your publications should update within 24 hours. If your publications are still not appearing, please reach out to the Clin-STAR Coordinating Center.

A final option is to edit your profile and add the entry for the publication manually. For a brief introductory video on editing your profile, click here.

How can I find a mentor using the database?

You can use the People listing to find other Clin-STAR Database users who are available to be a mentor. The left column on the People page includes various categories you can use to filter profiles. Under "Available as" you can select Career-senior mentor or Career-peer mentor. In the section below, under "Contact for", you can filter by what options they have selected for what topics they are comfortable advising on (career, research, or work/life balance).

I am appearing in searches that are not reflective of my research areas. How can I fix this?

You will need to review the Research Areas listed on your profile and remove any that are not relevant. These are ingested based on your publications, and some may not be a good fit for your profile.
