Frequently Asked Questions about Clin-STAR Travel Funds

Are non-MD applicants allowed to become part of Clin-STAR?

• Yes, the Clin-STAR Coordinating Center welcomes clinicians from a range of backgrounds, including MD, PhD, RN, OT, MSW, etc.

Do you need to be affiliated with Clin-STAR to submit an application?

• Applicants should join the Clin-STAR database and listserv to be considered for funding.

Who will be reviewing the applications?

• Clin-STAR Core Members will review applications relevant to their activities (e.g. the Leadership Core will review applications for the Distinguished Professor program.) Additional review committees may be convened.

Will reviewer critiques be made available?

• No.

It is sometimes difficult for allied health professionals to compete with MDs. Oftentimes, CVs are simply not comparable. How will the program take this into consideration when providing opportunities?

• We understand that there may be considerable variation in the strength of the CVs based on the candidates' training. The reviewers will conduct a fair and balanced review and take these variables into consideration

When is the deadline for submitting an application?

• All funding opportunities will be awarded on a rolling basis with the exception of the pilot grant, which has an annual application process.

Are non-US citizens eligible for Clin-STAR travel funds?

• Yes, non-US citizens are eligible for the Clin-STAR Travel Funds. However, awardees must be a clinician-scientist at a U.S.-based institution, and travel must be within the U.S.

Are any of these funding opportunities available internationally?

• No, you must be a clinician-scientist at a U.S.-based institution by the start date of the award (i.e. the funds must be used at a U.S.-based institution only.)

Will I receive a W-2 or some type of tax document to use when I file my taxes?

• No, we do not provide any documentation for tax filing. You should check with the IRS or your tax-preparer to determine the best way to declare the funding.
